REIKI? What's that?
Reiki is a safe, simple, relaxing method of natural healing. There are no intrusive procedures, (you do not need to remove your clothing) and anyone can experience it.
It is a Japanese word of two syllables which mean: REI (pronounced "ray") = Universal Spirit or Essence or God KI (pronounced "key") = Life energy Or Universal Life Force
Reiki is not a religion, sect or cult, and it is not based on creeds or beliefs contradictory to Universal Laws of Love and Light. Reiki embraces all positive philosophies and systems of thought, and can be seen as an excellent complement to orthodox medicine.
So......how does it work?
The discipline of Reiki has to do with the use of Universal Life Energy in a healing capacity. People trained in Reiki can tap into the supply of Life Energy and channel it through their bodies to the receiver. The energy comes through the Reiki practitioner, not from them, and therefore the practitioner does not drain their own energy. Once in the receiver the energy goes to where it is needed. There are two important things to remember:
- Reiki does not heal. Rather, it empowers the receiver to take the next most appropriate step in their growth and development, their highest soul purpose. This is usually to redress energy imbalances and activate natural repair mechanisms. (Seek advice from a health care professional if necessary). Therefore, the receiver of Reiki actually heals themselves.
- Reiki practitioners are not healers. They are channels of Life Energy and cannot influence where it goes or for what purpose it is used. The giving of Reiki must be unconditional. A Reiki channel simply taps into the energy supply and surrenders to it, trusting that it will go to where it is needed to produce the greatest benefit for the receiver. A Reiki channel can make no claims or promises whatsoever as to cures, miracles, etc. Reiki does not cause harm.
Who can benefit from Reiki?
Anyone can benefit from the healing gift of Reiki. It is an excellent adjunct to any treatment a person is receiving for physical problems or disease. It is very beneficial in times of stress, and for inducing a relaxing, peaceful state. I am often asked why I, as a Psychologist, use Reiki. The answer is that clients find Reiki to be a helpful complement to counselling, as it enables them to process emotional problems with greater ease.
For true healing to take place, it needs to occur on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level. Reiki helps integrate the healing on each of these four levels.
