Frequently Asked Questions
Does Telephone Counselling use qualified counsellors?
Yes - please refer to our Staff page for more detailed information on our team members.
What does a breach of confidentiality mean?
In some cases, such as when there is an immediate threat to a person's safety (yours or another person's), or when there is knowledge of current child abuse our telephone counselling staff will report these matters to the relevant authorities as is required by law. In such a case, the matter requiring reporting will be discussed with the client prior to action being taken.
What is clinical supervision?
It is 'best practice' that counsellors receive professional supervision to ensure that a professional and ethical standard is maintained.
This means that there may be occasions when the client's case is discussed with a professional counsellor qualified and experienced in counselling and supervision.
This person is available to our telephone counselling service counsellors for the purpose of supervision and they willingly comply with the Privacy Act and PACFA Code of Ethics.
What about research and education?
Counsellors consider research and education to be important to clients and workers interested in their services. If a person agrees on the Intake Form to participate in research then telephone counselling staff will seek their written consent and use non-identifying information for research and education purposes.
